System Restore

My laptop had a bug, a nasty little one that was wrecking havoc on my computer and my nerves. My browser wouldn’t open and an error message kept popping up every 30 seconds telling me my battery wasn’t compatible (?!?!?) I was thinking of wiping the entire system clean and starting over, but in a last‑ditch effort I opened the best improvement in Windows ever…system restore. I went back an entire week; I wanted to be sure to get past whatever virus had been picked up. Not expecting much, I let the program go back in time, wiping clean whatever changes I had made over the past week that could have allowed this virus to attach itself. I anxiously waited for the system to reboot, and finally let out a sigh of relief when everything began functioning properly. As I set my virus and adware programs to run overnight, I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a system restore in life?” Yesterday was filled with one technological problem after another. I was stressed, I was hormonal and irritable, and I was overwhelmed with my day’s work. I picked up a doozy of an emotional virus along the way, allowing error messages to pop in my mind all day long.

This morning as I reflect on this, my passage for the day is Colossians 3 (CEV). “You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God’s right side. Think about what is up there, not about what is on earth…Christ gives meaning to your life.” (v.1‑3) That’s the input. “Don’t be controlled by your body…You must quit being angry, hateful, and evil. You must no longer say insulting or cruel things about others. And stop lying to each other. You have given up your old ways of life with its habits.” (v. 5‑9). Oops, there’s a virus. “God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you. Love is more important than anything else.” (v. 12‑14). And that should be the output.

So, where do I set my restore point?

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.

They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Thank you, Father, for fresh starts, for being examined and wiped cleaned. Search me and know me, find any malware, block the viruses that try to slip in and disrupt my system. Keep me functioning properly for Your purpose.
