To Know Someone Cares – Ministry to Moms of Newborns

Angela and Maggie
On December 8, 2008 I gave birth to my second child, a beautiful baby girl - Ms. Maggie Pearl Johnston. A few days after we were home I received a phone call from Belinda Smith asking if she could come by to visit with us and drop something off. I thought sure, I would love to see Belinda and have her see my new baby.
I had no idea she would be bringing such a wonderful generous basket, complements of one of the women’s ministries at Dogwood Church, the Ministry to Moms of Newborns. There were many lovely gifts for my baby and some very thoughtful gifts for me. It was such a lovely surprise. I have to say, just the thought of knowing that someone took the time to make the basket and deliver it to me really meant a lot.
Being the mother of a newborn is the most incredible gift ever! It is such a blessing for me to know that I will be bringing my children up around amazing people like the ladies who are a part of this ministry to moms who have just delivered babies. Although I didn’t need them to, they were available to come alongside of me if I ever needed help. I knew they were praying for me and that they were only a phone call away.
It’s been five months now since Maggie was born, and I just received a beautiful Mother’s Day card from this wonderful ministry. Another great surprise – thank you!!! It’s really nice to know someone cares.

Love your blog Ang!And the picture! I also LOVE the whole idea of the Ministry to Moms of Newborns. Thank you Belinda, Jenny, Britney, Kelly and Elly! [And Carrie]This is such an exciting time in a woman’s life and for some, difficult. It is awesome to know that our church family cares and is excited to celebrate with new moms and available to help the women who need support. My own family has been blessed by this ministry as Belinda delivered a basket to the hospital when my little nephew, Anthony, was born [6 months ago]…and we were all waiting until the day he could leave NICU and be held. It made a HUGE impact on my family here AND in NY. My brother has been attending Dogwood for a few months now and my nephew gets to go to the baby room and be loved on by the wonderful women in there. Anthony was dedicated on Mother’s Day!I KNOW that this also touched my mom [in NY] and nudged her one step closer to the profession of faith she made recently. This is more than just a ministry that delivers gift baskets…it delivers love and hope and Christ! It changes lives! Thank you, ladies, for being Jesus with skin on!
