Cocoa Oatmeal Treats

These cookies have been a family favorite since I was a little tot and my sister Missy used to make them for me and the other younger siblings.  Now they are my kids’ favorite!  And since they only use 1 medium size pot on the stove, they are quick, don’t heat up the kitchen too much, and clean-up is a breeze.

Recipe: Cocoa Oatmeal Treats

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups sugar
  2. 1/3 cup Hershey’s Cocoa
  3. 1/2 cup milk
  4. 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  5. 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
  6. 2-1/2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
  7. 1/2 cup chopped unsalted peanuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. In medium saucepan, stir together sugar and cocoa; stir in milk and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil, boil 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat; stir in peanut butter.
  3. Add oats and peanuts; stir to mix well.
  4. Quickly drop mixture by rounded teaspoonfuls onto wax paper or foil.
  5. Cool completely.  Store in cool, dry place.  About 4 dozen.

We used to make these as kids too but we called them “cow chip cookies”. Now that I think about it, that’s not very appetizing but we loved them!

I love these! They are called Fudgie Wudgies in our house!!

Wow! These are good! My daughter and I made these after dinner tonight. Next time I will half the recipe because we’ll be eating these for days! On second thought, is that such a bad thing? : )

They are my family’s favorite cookie, hands down. I love reading what everybody calls them, and Carla “cow chip cookies” is funny. I’ll have to find my recipe for what we used to call “puppy chow,” which was a chex cereal dipped in peanut butter and chocolate and then covered in powdered sugar.
