Share Your Story – Connie

connie hicksMy name is Connie Hicks. I am 30 years old. I am a Breast Cancer Survivor.

Last year, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After two surgeries, three months of daily radiation treatments, and many, many prayers the cancer is no longer in my body. Praise God! During this time, I grew extremely close to the Lord as I fought the most difficult battle of my life. He gave me physical, mental and emotional strength to get through this challenging time. One Bible verse that touched my heart and was constantly in my thoughts was Isaiah 40:31– “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” This was the first time I had every experienced the physical strength the Lord could give. I was extremely fatigued (and still had to work long hours in downtown Atlanta) and He renewed my strength, including physical strength on a daily basis and sometimes a moment to moment basis. I truly had to rely on the Lord and trust in Him on a much deeper level than I ever had experienced before.

My relationship with the Lord grew to a much deeper level than I had ever known. He literally saved my life!  I realize time is so precious and we must make the most of each moment. I had heard this so many times before in my life but had never experienced it to such great depth until now. My perspective on life has changed and I realize that sometimes when you go through a devastating experience that God can and will use it for something amazing. I truly feel His work has just begun. I believe everything happens for a reason and as Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

I look forward to the future God has planned for me. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
