Makes Me Think … Homecoming
Homecoming
Last Friday night (10/2) was Homecoming at Landmark Christian School. Lots of people return to reconnect and catch up on what has happened in the years since they were in high school together. There was sharing about college, marriage, careers, kids, travel adventures and everything in between. It was a night of hugs, laughs and lots of fun. It’s great to come “home” and be received by those who love you.
Makes me think of another Homecoming. It’s in the future if you’re reading this! The ultimate Homecoming. Heaven. Just think of all of the catching up there’ll be to do! We’ll see people that lived thousands of years ago. Listening to stories that span millennia. Personally I want to pull Daniel aside. He’s one of my favorite OT personalities with his no compromise attitude. My daddy is another that I’m looking forward to reuniting with. We will know and be known; love and be loved. Completed. Settled. Finally home. But just like any Homecoming there is always one person who holds a special interest – that one that our heart longs for. Perhaps this is why the song I Can Only Imagine was such a hit. It strikes a chord in us. How will we react when we are finally at the Homecoming of all Homecomings and our eyes take in the very longing of our entire being? The answer to our every question? The Lord Jesus in all of His glory. When I think of this I’m sure that I’ll dance and sing Hallelujah with joy unimaginable. But then I realize in Whose presence I’ll be in and know that I’ll be speechless, on my face in absolute worship. My mind really can’t take in how this scene might play out.
Homecoming. It begs the question, Where is your eventual, eternal “home?” Trust Jesus. Do it today and settle that question forever! Delay in this crucial area just might prove to be the most costly procrastination you’ve ever chosen.
“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
–John 14:2-3–
