Makes Me Think of . . . Life!

I went to a funeral this week.  Funny thing funerals.  While there is incredible sadness, grief and loss they have a way of making me think of  . . . life.  It kind of puts everything into perspective.  Trivializes the things that before might have seemed irksome.  Brings clarity.  Helps us to see in Technicolor . . . again.  Cause somehow along the path of life we tend to loose sight of what’s really important and how beautiful life really is.  Then BAM! and we’re hit with the brevity of life – even our life – and it shocks us back into a state of thankfulness and appreciation for this one short life that God has blessed us with.   Now I could list all of the things that we are and should be grateful for but those are mostly external.  What I mean is the inner joy of living the life God has given us.  Peace in the middle of chaos.  Humility when wronged.  Forgiveness when offended.  Joy even in incredible pain and suffering.  Patience in Atlanta traffic.  (If you’re from Atlanta you know exactly what I mean!)  Life in abundance.  Life that isn’t afraid to give, pray, love and go till our breath is gone.  No fear.  Hopeful.  God-filled.  Abundant.

“The thief comes only to kill, steal and destroy; I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it abundantly.

–John 10:10–
