I’ve Called You By Name

" Without your love, a love I need, it’s ...

Growing up, I had a nickname.  Everybody called me “Bink.”   They even used this name during school announcements.   Yes, I know what you’re thinking!  And, NO, I do not let anyone except my mom call me that anymore!

I have many names for my daughter, Jacqueline.     She’s Muffin, Little One, Jacque Jacque, Baby Girl.   She is precious to me, and so often, calling her by her given name just doesn’t express that affection adequately.

We give special names to those we love.   They are terms of endearment that create a unique place in the hearts of those who use them.   They mean something special to us, express our hearts, and bring warmth to the one who receives it.   They show others that there is a distinct relationship that exists between us.

This is what the Lord, our Creator, said to the people of Israel:

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name; you are Mine!

Isaiah 43:1

Followers of Jesus Christ are also promised a new name in the future:

To him who overcomes, …I will give him a white stone,

and a new name written on the stone

which no one knows but he who receives it.’

Revelation 2:17

Who we are matters to God and He calls us by name.  We are called His beloved.  We are precious, dear and beloved of God.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love;

Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.”

Jeremiah 31:3

God is saying, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will.  Expect love, love, and more love!  Expect My continued faithfulness to you for you are my child and I’ve called you by name.

    What a sweet blog. It reminds me of my children growing up and the little names I had for them. I wanted them to know how special they were to me. We are God’s special children and we should never forget that.

    This is such a precious truth. We are deeply loved by God. I recently reread an old book by Andrew Murray titled “Abide in Me”. In that book he says that ‘…Jesus was motivated by immeasurable love and compassion when He said these words, ‘Come unto Me’ ; and with no less fervency He gives the invitation to ‘abide’.” So, not only are we loved…but like your blog says…we are the beloved. We are desired by God. His mind is full of us. Being reminded of this …I don’t know if I want to lie flat on the ground in appreciation of Gods great grace and love or lift my hands up as far as they can go in praise and thanksgiving! Or both!!! :0) Blessings dear Sister and thanks again for sharing your heart to bring edification to the body of Christ!
